When The Matric 2023 Exam Results Will Be Released. After completing their final matric exams, many learners in the class of 2021 will be awaiting their results. The Department of Basic Education, has revealed when marking will be taking place and the date that the Minister will be announcing the national results.

During the course of the exams, the department will be adopting a 4 tier monitoring approach at all schools. This approach will include the National DBE, provincial DBEs, districts and circuits. This means, monitors will be present at every school in order to monitor progress and ensure that the final exams take place under fair conditions.

For the matric class of 2023, Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, will be announcing results on 20 January 2022. After the Minister’s announcement, provinces will then release the results on 21 January 2023.

Before the exam results are released, there are several processes that the department follows in order to give learners accurate results.

As with all other matric exams, markers have been appointed across all 9 provinces. The department revealed on Friday during a media briefing, that a total of  41 596 markers have been appointed to handle the marking of the 2021 matric exams.

In order to accommodate the markers, 194 marking centres have been established. Basic Education Director of Exams, Priscilla Ogunbanjo said this year’s number of marking centres has increased by 20 in comparison to last year’s number of marking centres.

Increasing the number of marking centres is part of the department’s efforts to comply with Covid-19 protocols. The markers appointed by the department are expected to finish marking by 22 December 2022, and Umalusi standardisation is expected to take place by 6 January 2023.

Umalusi, also known as the Council for Quality Assurance, monitors the standard for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) Exams. In order for the national exam results to be released, Umalusi needs to declare that the exams and the marking processes are up to standard.

Once this has been announced, and the final matric exams have been declared fair, the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga is then able to announce the national matric results and pass rate.
